Genealogy Records Available in Berrien County

Berrien County has one of the longest records runs of any county in southwest Michigan. Marriage records go back to 1831, which is when the county was first organized. Birth and death records begin in 1867, when the state started requiring registration. Death and marriage records are public and can be requested by anyone. Birth records less than 100 years old are restricted under MCL 333.2882, and only the person named, their parents, legal guardian, or authorized representative can get copies of those.

The fee for a certified copy is $15 for the first record. Under MCL 333.2884, this rate applies statewide. If you need additional copies of the same record, they typically cost less than the first.
